There is much debate locally and nationally around public sex work. It is not for this website to weigh in on the moral and social debates around these issues. This section is to recognise the need for PSE work and its related issues that derbyshireFRIEND (df) addresses.
df has been undertaking PSE work for three years, in this time it has developed the skills, knowledge and abilities to undertake effective outreach programmes. df works closely with Derbyshire Constabulary, Health and the local Community Safety Partnerships in order to support and inform our PSE work.
At present we undertake PSE work in Erewash, South Derbyshire and most notably in Derby and Amber Valley where the bulk of our PSE sites are.
This work is much needed due to the rural isolation of our communities; the lack of venues and groups in Derby and Derbyshire, and the potential risks of exploitation lead many people to undertake public sex. At the present time we are recognising that we have three saunas for men who have sex with men within a twenty mile radius of Derby and the need for this work will be addressed in next year plans.
In conjunction with our Derby City partners the Edge Project, df has been at the forefront of work to address the sexual exploitation of young people. In Derby the Edge Project has developed the Boys and Young Men's Team, however in Derbyshire there is no such work leaving df to address this on a case by case basis rather than on a structured basis. Working with MSM, df is due to its long term work in PSE environments are seeing an increasing number of BME men and young men accessing our services. This is an area that is developing further.
